Frühling der Verräter 

Some records attempt to document the present. Frühling der Verräter does something different. Its twelve songs feel like fragments recovered from a world in which certainty has long since collapsed and even ideas such as freedom, homeland and progress have become damaged concepts rather than stable truths.

The opening track, "Dieser Krieg" ("This War"), immediately makes clear that the album is not interested in documenting current events. Here, war appears as a permanent social condition—something that permeates language, everyday life and memory alike. From there, the record unfolds not as a concept album or political manifesto, but as a sequence of sharply focused observations. Mittagspause, Keine Chance, 1000 Jahre, Küsse die Töten, Messer im Kopf, Die Hölle, Tod in Frankreich, Es regnet and 30 April read like headlines drawn simultaneously from Germany's post-war past and its unsettling present.

Musically, ES WAR MORD reconnect with that brief moment when early German punk stopped treating hardcore simply as acceleration and began using it to intensify atmosphere. The two guitars refuse straightforward riffs, constantly generating tension through dissonance, shifting tempos and fractured rhythms. The voice does not simply carry the lyrics; it struggles against them.

Remarkably, the band avoids grand gestures throughout. Even when political themes become unmistakable, there is no moral self-congratulation. ES WAR MORD distrust easy answers as much as they distrust the posture of permanent outrage. Their music is driven by analysis rather than indignation, and by the conviction that contradiction can reveal more than certainty ever could.

For that reason, Frühling der Verräter never sounds nostalgic, despite its roots in the German punk underground of the early 1980s. Instead, it demonstrates how urgently relevant that aesthetic remains when confronted with a society whose own self-image has begun to fracture.

The album was produced by Thomas Götz, whose restrained approach preserves the band's raw immediacy without softening its edges. Karen Dhiós' mix brings clarity and weight while allowing every rough surface to remain intact, and Wolfgang Gottlieb's mastering gives the record its powerful yet open sound. Max Müller's cover painting captures the album's unsettling atmosphere, while Florian Hemmerlein's artwork and layout complete a visual identity that, like the music itself, resists easy interpretation.
